Flume – Gatehouse
The Gatehouse
I had occasion recently to speak at the New England Water Works Association Spring Joint Regional Conference & Exhibition and, in the time allotted, opted to talk about the flume that was constructed to safely control the Nashua River during the construction of the dam.
Those who study the project photos on Digital Commonwealth will have found numerous views of the flume with its gatehouse prominently displayed at the upstream end.
Not a single photo of the interior of this structure and how the equipment inside it was operated to control the flow of the river.
Luckily, there are a few precious drawings on this structure preserved on line.
Thanks,
Paul

As a bonus I have included some interesting outtakes of people and activities from that time that caught my eye as I was passing through them.
Feeding the horses from a wheelbarrow
Small boys…small spaces
I hope you like them.
Thanks,
Paul
